Alesse is a combination of female hormones that are important in preventing ovulation (the process of release of an egg from the ovary). This medication is also used fro purposes like bringing changes in the cervical mucous an uterine lining that makes it harder for sperm or fertilized eggs in coming in contact with the uterus. In other words, Alesse is primarily a form of contraception pill taken to avoid pregnancy in a woman.
Factors to be remembered before
using Alesse:
This medication may cause birth defects. Therefore a person should be aware
of the conditions where these medicines should be avoided. Generally, women
known to have a baby recently are advised of staying away form these drugs for
at least a months time. Other cases where it should be avoided include:
A past record of strokes, blood clots or jaundice
Hormone related cancers like breast cancer, uterine cancer
Abnormal vaginal bleeding
Severe migraine headaches
Circulation problems especially caused by diabetes
Severe high blood pressure
Heart valve disorder etc.
Directions of use:
Women using these drugs may need back-up birth control like condoms,
spermicides. Ideally these drugs should be taken every day with a gap of twenty
four hours in between them. Irregular use of Alesse may lead to unwanted
pregnancy. In case there is an emergency it is advised the individual sees a
doctor.
Side effects:
sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body
sudden headaches, confusion or pain behind the eyes
chest pain or heavy feeling
pain spreading to the arm or shoulder
nausea, sweating or a general ill feeling
nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored
stools, jaundice
yellowing of the skin or eyes
swelling in hands, ankles, or feet
Symptoms of depression associated with insomnia, weakness, mood swings.
